Modal interchange in depth

Concept

Modal interchange is borrowing chords from parallel modes (same root, different mode). In C major you can borrow from C minor (bIII, bVI, bVII, iv), C Dorian (IV major instead of IV — actually IV is already major; the borrow is ii chord becomes II), C Mixolydian (bVII), Phrygian (bII), and Lydian (II chord). Each borrow brings a specific color.
