Targeting chord tones over changes
Concept
When chords change underneath you, the smartest move is to land on a chord tone (1, 3, 5, 7) of each chord as it arrives. Plan ahead: as G7 approaches, aim your line at B, D, F, or G. The notes BETWEEN chord changes can be scale tones — but the arrival notes should be chord tones.
